Christa Haley is a filmmaker based in New York City. She grew up in rural northern New York, where her grandfather’s love for making home movies inspired her dream of directing at age ten.

She is a thesis candidate at the NYU Graduate Film Program. Her first short film, Swim Captain, received awards at Woodstock and RiverRun. Her follow-up, Tragedy Babes, earned a faculty commendation in filmmaking, premiered at Palm Springs ShortFest, and was released by Short of the Week.

Christa began her career as a full-time production intern on The Place Beyond the Pines while working weekends at Blockbuster. She later became director Derek Cianfrance’s assistant during post-production. Since then, she has worked as an Assistant Editor on projects like Harriet, Mary Poppins Returns, Magic Mike’s Last Dance, and HBO’s Scenes from a Marriage.

Her directorial work explores femininity with unsettling intimacy, often through a dark, analytical lens.
